Coleridge Rally Stops Lady Tigers 39-35

Friday the Osmond Tigers traveled to Lewis & Clark conference opponent Coleridge. The score was tied 8-8 after the first quarter. The Tigers took an 18 to 11 lead going into half as Sidney Brummels hit a 3pointer at the buzzer. Osmond started the second half getting a number of good shots but came up short as the Lady Bulldogs slowly closed the margin to 24 to 25.
The Tigers one point lead didn’t last long as Coleridge’s Morgan Arduser hit a basket, then a 3-pointer to give the Bulldog’s the lead. With 1:15 left in the game and the score 35 to 28 in the home teams favor, Kim Huwaldt hit a 3-pointer. The Tiger defense caused a turnover. Carissa Gutz hit a basket on an in bounds play to close the gap to 2 points with 40 seconds left in the game. Osmond had a couple of opportunities to tie or take the lead, but could not come up with the basket and had to foul to try to get the ball back. Coleridge hit some critical free throws to seal the win 39 to 35.
“We had a tough night shooting and Coleridge did a good job defensively of keeping us on the perimeter,” commented Coach Joe Ortmeier. “We really gave them a run in the final seconds of the game, but just came up short.”
Ashley Gillilan and Kristin Gudenkauf led the Tigers with 6 points each. Morgan Arduser led all scorers with 13 points. The Bulldogs out rebounded Osmond 32 to 27 with Laurel Krohn collecting 8 rebounds. Laurel also dished off 6 assists.
