Ewing Over Lady Tigers 41-31
by Joe Ortmeier
January 29, 2010
Osmond Tigers traveled to Ewing for the regular season meeting. Weeks earlier the Ewing Tigers won the Wausa tournament with 49-46 overtime win over the Osmond Lady Tigers.
This time as the game unfolded Osmond took a 12 to 8 lead after one quarter. The game took on a defensive tone as both teams found scoring difficult. Ewing scored 4 points and the Osmond Tigers 2 for a 14 to 12 score at intermission.
In the third quarter Kristin Gudenkauf scored 5 of the Tigers 9 points trying to keep pace but Ewing outscored Osmond 14 to 9 for a score of 23 to 26 going into the final 8 minutes. As good teams do, Ewing hit 10 of 13 free throws to keep Osmond from getting any closer for a final score of 31-41.
“We started the game well, but their defense became more aggressive trapping our guards giving us trouble,” Coach Joe Ortmeier said. “We hung in keeping it close until we had to foul to get possession of the ball. Ewing is a quality team.”
Kim Huwaldt led the Osmond Tigers with 12 points, Tiffany Thramer led all scorers with 18. Ewing collected 32 rebounds to the 28 by Osmond with Gudenkauf grabbing 8 and Laurel Krohn 7.
