District D1 – 7 Osmond Girls over Bloomfield 43 - 35

Osmond Lady Tigers opened the D1-7 sub-district tournament at Wausa High School with a win over Bloomfield 43 to 35. The tournament was delayed due to blizzard conditions on Monday.
The Tigers got out to a 12 to 9 lead behind a pair of 3-point baskets, one by Laurel Krohn and another by Kim Huwaldt. In the second quarter the Tiger defense allowed only 3 points to Osmond’s 12 points for a 24 to 12 lead.
The third quarter saw the Tigers struggle from the field scoring only 4 points to the Bee’s 12, mostly scored by Mary Lingenfelter and mostly from the free throw line. Score going into the fourth quarter was Tigers 28 and Bees 24. Freshman Laurel quickly expanded the score hitting a pair of baskets on drives. She scored 10 of her team high 15 points in the final 8 minutes. Kristin Gudenkauf also hit a pair of baskets in the lane to rebuild a 10-point advantage.
“The girls were a little tight coming out of the lockeroom after the half, but got going again in the fourth quarter. Laurel really played well in that last quarter.” Noted Coach Joe Ortmeier.
Mary Lingenfelter led all scorers with 17 points, hitting 9 of 12 from the line. Laurel Krohn led the Tigers with 15 points, Kim Huwaldt and Kristin Gudenkauf each added 8 points. Osmond out rebounded the Bees 38 to 23 led by Gudenkauf’s 9 boards.
Kim passed off 3 assists.
Osmond was to meet Hartington in the Sub-district final. The Wildcats defeated the Randolph Cardinals 49-45.
