Bees sting Tigers in opening JV football game
The Bloomfield Bees spoiled the Osmond Tigers home opener in junior varsity football on Monday, September 8 at the Osmond football field.
After stopping the Bees on their opening possession of the game, the Tigers came down and scored on their opening possession when sophomore Brock Johnson ran in for a touchdown.
This made the score 6-0 after a failed two-point conversion attempt.
The Bees then scored 16 unanswered points to finish out the half. They went into the second half with a 16-6 advantage over the Tigers.
In the third quarter, the Tigers took advantage of receiving the ball as they drove the ball down the field and scored on their opening possession as Johnson scored on a designed run.
They Tigers failed on their two-point conversion attempt, making the score 16-12. This score held through the third quarter until the Tigers scored and took the lead.
After marching the ball down the field towards the end of the third quarter, the Tigers punched in a touchdown in the opening portion of the fourth quarter as Brett Simmons caught a pass from Johnson and worked his way into the end-zone.
On the conversion attempt, quarterback Brock Johnson (So.) scrambled his way to get an important two points.
The Tigers had several opportunities to end the game by using their defense to shut-down the Bloomfield attack. They put the Bees in several, difficult third and fourth down situations, but could not get a stop when they needed it the most.
The Bees broke through the Tigers’ defensive attack and scored their final touchdown to give them a 22-16 advantage. After forcing the Tigers to punt, the Bees ran out the clock in the waning moments of the fourth quarter and preserved a 22-20 win.
The main Tiger contributors for the Tiger defense were Riley Kumm (Jr., DT), Aric Kreinert (Jr., DT), Vincent Heldoorn (Sr., LB), Preston Koehler (So., OLB), and Tristan Marteans (Fr., LB). Tyler vonRentzall (So., OLB), and Blake Aschoff (So., OLB) also contributed.
Offensively the Tigers were led by Johnson, Simmons, Moes, Dante Schmidt (Jr., C), Dylan Wieneke (Fr., G), Curtis Kralicek (So., E), and Bryan Manzer (So., E).
Members of the special teams included a group of freshmen players. These were Brrendan Hille, Colton Beacom, Alex Palu, Zach Simms, Alex Alderson, and Asher Watier.
The Tigers will play Monday, September 15 in Randolph against the Cardinals at 6:30pm.
