Tigers battle against Wynot
OSMOND-- The Osmond Lady Tigers hosted the Wynot Lady Blue Devils on Tuesday, October 18.
The Lady Blue Devils won the match 26-24, 22-25, 25-14, 26-24, 15-11.
In the first set of the night, the Lady Tigers came out with a lot of intensity and few service errors. They finished the set very well, but were just a couple points short of winning the rally due to hitting errors.
In the second set, the Tigers continued to work extremely hard, and were able to keep their hitting errors to a minimum, resulting in a win.
The third set, however, did not go our way. The Blue Devils served well and inhibited the Tigers' serve receive.
The fourth set was a close rally just like the first and second. The excitement in the gym was palpable as the girls vied for every point.
The fifth and final set got off to a bit of a slow start, with the Blue Devils scoring a six-point run on the Tigers. However, the Tigers got the score back within two points before the match was over.
Despite the overall loss, it was still a good night for the Tigers, some of whom played their last home volleyball game in their high school career.
Senior Caitlin Kumm had sixteen kills, nineteen set assists, two solo blocks three ace serves, and seventeen digs. Andrea Schmit has ten kills, three solo blocks, three ace serves, and six digs. Shelby Stelling had nine digs.
Junior Haven Shultze had twelve set assists and eight digs. Makenzie Johnson has twelve kills and eight digs. Mariah Stech had seven digs.
Sophomore Kennedy Johnson had five digs, and Diandra Polt had two kills.
"I was very proud of how the girls played; they brought passion and intensity and left it all on the court," Coach Johnson reminisced.
Since it was the last home volleyball game for the seniors, parents' night was held on Tuesday between the junior varsity and varsity games. After the game, members of the volleyball and cross country teams went to the cafeteria to eat cake and ice cream provided by the seniors' parents.
The updated record for the Osmond Lady Tigers is 6-13.
The Tigers will travel to Wynot to face the Creighton Lady Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21.
