Thursday April the Osmond track teams traveled to Battle Creek for their Invitational track meet. The Tigers were missing a few athletes due to Leadership conferences but still put some very good marks on the board.
Battle Creek and Norfolk Catholic ran away with the team hardware as the Tigers placed 4th in the boy’s side and 5th in the girl’s division. Top girl placer was Haven Schultze finishing second in the 100 meters in a nice time of 13.3. She was third in the 200 meters in 28.9. Kennedy Johnson was edged at the line in the 400 meters. She had a tremendous kick but could not out lean Riley Seifert of Battle Creek. Both runners had identical times of 67.9.
Makenzie Johnson finished fifth in the 100 hurdles in 18.4 and tied for fourth place in the high jump at 4-8. Mary Kahny placed fifth in the discus with a best throw of 85’ 11.5 and Kennedy Johnson placed fifth in the triple jump with her best effort of the season of 31-11. She also made the finals of the long jump but did not place.
Justus Maertins has a stellar day with personal best performances in his individual events. He was second in the 300 hurdles in a time of 44.6. He finished third in the 110 high hurdles at 18.1 with teammate Keaton Timmerman coming in sixth at 20.2. Earlier he collected fourth place in the triple jump with his best leap ever of 38’3.
Jared Bessmer ran his best 3200 meters of the season placing third in 11:14.6. He also finished sixth in the 1600 meters in 5:251. Johnson Chishiba ran a strong race in the 800 meters placing third in his best time ever of 2:18.2.
Alex Palu had a solid day as he finished fourth in the 100 meters in his best time of 11.6. He was edged by Clausen of Norfolk Catholic. He made the finals of the 200 meters but did not place. Alex also led off the 1600-relay with a strong leg as the team of Palu, Johnson Chishiba, Connor Gutz and Maertins finished third in a time of 3:52.6.
In the field events Aaron Chishiba placed third in the high jump at 5-4 then recorded his best mark in the long jump of 19-8.5 placing him fifth. Alexis Solorzano took fourth place in the shot put. He threw a personal best distance of 41-6. Johnson Chishiba made the finals of the triple jump but did not place.
“I thought we competed well after poor weather and another snow day hurt our training” noted Coach Joe Ortmeier.
