JH Lady Tigers lose A game, win B game at Plainview
PLAINVIEW—The Osmond Tigers played at Plainview on Monday, January 28. The Tigers lost the A game 24-5 and won the B game.
The Tigers got off to a solid start with a 5-4 lead after the first quarter.
Cali Gutz scored on a layup and Callie Hoffman had a three-point play after scoring and then making the free-throw after the foul.
“I thought we got off to a great start,” Tigers coach Scott Morrison said. “We came out ready to compete and looked like we were going to continue moving forward.”
However, as the game continued, the Tigers were frustrated by Plainview’s physical and aggressive defense.
They had a few looks at the hoop but not many. The Tigers had a tough time finding open space. This made life difficult on the Tigers who had a tough time functioning after the Lady Tigers put on pressure.
“Overall, we had a tough time in the A game,” Morrison said. “We started worrying about aspects of the game we couldn’t control.”
While the Pirates ended up scoring the next twenty-one points in the game. They went not the half up 16-5.
What gave the Tigers the most trouble was simply not being able to get the ball inbounds or up the court.
The Tigers did a nice a nice job defensively in the third quarter, giving up only two points. They allowed only six in the fourth quarter.
“Defensively, I think we keep getting better,” Morrison said. “Our points per game average continues to go down.”
One important note from the game was that eight grade forward Reece Johns was hurt driving the ball to the hoop. She collided with a Plainview defender and missed the remainder of the game.
In the B game, Tigers played a little more relaxed. They did a nice job being aggressive both offensively and defensively.
Leah Buchanan scored three points for the Tigers while Callie Hoffman added two.
Belle Vinson did a nice job being aggressive on rebounds. Julianna Kumm also secured a nice rebound.
Anna Kahny did well with the ball in her hand. She had another great breakaway layup attempt.
Tessa Gardner was aggressive with the ball. Caydence Krienert had a couple nice drives to the hoop.
The Tigers have reached a stretch in the season where they will get quite a bit of practice time.
“One of the best ways our girls will improve is through more time on the court and through more opportunities to gain experience”
The Tigers’ next game will be on Tuesday, February 5 at Wausa.
