Osmond JH girls track team
The Osmond girls track team has competed in four meets so far this year and has shown great improvement in each one. Our first meet took place in Randolph on April 8th against Plainview, Randolph, LCC and Allen. The Tigers earned 3rd place overall. The 4X100 and the 4X400 teams ran for the first time at this meet. The 4x100 took 4th place (1:05.37) and the 4x400 came in at 2nd (5:17.12). 4x100 relay team members include Anna Kahny, Caydence Krienert, Erica Heiman and Callie Hoffmann. Members of the 4x400 meter relay team are Cali Gutz, Annabelle Vinson, Caydence Krienert, and Erica Heiman. Cali Gutz placed in several events, aside from the 4x400. She earned 1st place in the 800 meter run (2:51.84) and the 400 meter dash(1:10.01). She came in 2nd in the 200 meter dash with a time of 30.18. Others who placed at this meet include Erica Heiman with a 3rd place finish in the 100M hurdles (19.08), Leia Buchanan who was 4th in the girls triple jump (21-02.75), Annabelle Vinson who finished 4th in the discus throw (51-08), Tessa Gardner who placed 6th in the discuss (50-02.5) and 5th in the shot put (21-03) and Reese Johns who finished 6th in the shot put, throwing a distance of 21 feet 1 inch.
At the LCC meet on April 17th, the girls were 6th out of 8 teams, scoring 33 points. Ten girls brought home ribbons from this meet. Cali Gutz won 1st place in the 400 with a time of 1:10.48, while Erica Heiman came in at 6th with a time of 1:17.11. Cali had a 2nd place finish behind Madison Mackie from Stanton with a 3:00.57 finish. The 4x100 relay team (Anna Kahny, Caydence Krienert, Erica Heiman and Callie Hoffmann) came in at 5th place with a PR time of 1:04.6 and the 4x400 (Cali Gutz, Annabelle Vinson, Caydence Krienert, and Erica Heiman) finished in 3rd (5:17.72). Leia Buchanan placed 3rd in the triple jump, hopping her best distance so far of 23-04.5 feet.
The team next travelled to Creighton for their annual relay meet on April 18th. It was a fun day of relays for the team. At this meet, everything is a relay, even the field events. Everyone’s distance or height is added together and scored against the other teams. The girls placed 5th in the shot put, 6th in the discuss, 4th in the long jump and 5th in the triple jump. The hurdle shuttle relay team of Erica Heiman, Anna Kahny, Taylor Thompson, and Callie Hoffman placed 3rd. The 4x200 team of Julianna Kumm, Kyah Gray, Brooklyn Wattier and Annabelle Vinson were 6th. The 800 Medley team of Cali Gutz, Julianna Kumm, Kyah Gray and Brooklyn Wattier were 3rd. The 7th grade 4x100 relay team (Anna Kahny, Caydence Krienert, Erica Heiman and Callie Hoffmann) came in 2nd and the 8th grade 4x100 relay team (Leia Buchanan, Taylor Thompson, Reese Johns, and Cali Gutz) placed 4th, while the 4x400 relay team (Cali Gutz, Annabelle Vinson, Caydence Krienert, and Erica Heiman) was 5th overall. The girls teamed up with the boys for a co-ed 4x100 (Cali Gutz, Erica Heiman, Alex Vinson and Zach Reikofski) and a co-ed weight 4x100 (Tessa Gardner, Annabelle Vinson, Caden Wingert, and Reese Hannah) winning 1st in both relays.
The Pierce meet, originally scheduled for April 11th, was postponed until April 25th. It was a beautiful day for a track meet as the girls placed in 5 events and earned nine personal records on the day. Cali Gutz earned 2nd place finishes in both the 400 meter dash (1:06.94) and the 1600 meter run (6:13.56), setting a personal record in both races. Callie Hoffmann placed 5th in the 100 hurdles with a personal best of 20.10 seconds. They team cut 2 seconds off their time, running a 1:02.69 to earn a fourth place finish. The 4x400 relay team shaved over 16 seconds off their time to earn a second place finish with a time of 5:01.44. Those who did not place, but beat their best time or distance were: Leia Buchanan in the 100M (15.33), Julianna Kumm in the 400M(1:19.44), Taylor Thompson in the 100 hurdles(21.34), and Sidney Dominguez in the discuss(45-11).
The Tigers will travel to Laurel for the Winside meet on April 30th and to Hartington on May 3rd to complete this year’s track season.
