On Tuesday, September 24 the Osmond Lady Tigers(7-1) suffered two hard losses after having a seven-game win streak. The Tigers traveled to Battle Creek to play against Neligh-Oakdale (4-4) and Battle Creek (11-1).
The first match of the night was Neligh-Oakdale vs Battle Creek with Battle Creek coming out on top in two sets 25-9, 25-19.
The Tiger starters for both of their games were seniors Madeline Huwaldt (MH) and Kennedy Johnson (OH), junior Elisa Herrera (L), sophomores Bailey Schmit (RH), Macy Aschoff (OH), Kiera Moes (MH), and Grace Gansebom (S).
The second match of the night was Osmond vs Neligh-Oakdale. This match went three sets with the Warriors coming out on top 22-25, 25-23, 25-19.
The Tigers came out strong during the first set and were able to keep control of the set for their first and only set win of the night.
During the second set, the Tigers started out strong but slowly lost control of the game. As the momentum switched from the Tigers to the Warriors, the Tigers seemed to fall silent and were unable to get themselves back up.
Although the Tigers brought the set within two points, they were unable to get close enough to the Warrior’s lead to take over and win the set, causing the match to go into a third set.
The Tigers were ready to fight for their needed second set win to finish the game. Throughout the entire third set, the score was close and each team was fighting their hardest.
The Tigers were unable to communicate towards the end of the set and ended up falling too far behind causing them to gain only their second loss of the season.
Leading the Tigers in kills were Kennedy Johnson and Macy Aschoff each with five followed by Kiera Moes with four and Grace Gansebom and Bailey Schmit each with one.
G. Gansebom had fourteen set assists.
Johnson had two solo blocks followed by Aschoff with one.
G. Gansebom and Schmit each had one ace serve.
Aschoff and Johnson each had fourteen digs followed by G. Gansebom with thirteen, Herrera with eleven, Schmit with nine, Huwaldt with three, and Moes with one.
The final match of the night was Osmond vs Battle Creek where Battle Creek came out on top in two sets 25-12, 25-10.
Going into this game the Tigers knew this would be the toughest matchup of the season so far. What made this matchup even more difficult was the previous loss of the night.
Although neither set of this matchup was pretty for the Tigers, the first set was better than the second. The Tigers tried their hardest and were determined to finish the game no matter what the score was.
When the second set started it was visible that the Tigers were beat already but they continued to push through the set and score ten points against this tough opponent.
Sophomore Lillie Gansebom was able to see the playing floor during this game.
Macy Aschoff led the Tigers in kills with three followed by Bailey Schmit with two and Kennedy Johnson with one.
Grace Gansebom had five sets on the night.
Johnson had one solo block.
Elisa Herrera led the Tigers in digs with ten followed by G. Gansebom with seven, Johnson with six, Aschoff and Schmit each with three, and Lillie Gansebom with one.
The Tigers (7-3) will travel to Hartington for a junior varsity and varsity matchup on September 26 against Hartington (6-6) with JV starting at 4:30 and varsity to follow.
