Tigers fight in Plainview
BY MADELINE HUWALDT
On October 10 the Lady Tigers (8-8) traveled to Plainview to take on the Lady Pirates (3-14) in a five set match that was very intense. Sadly the Lady Tigers fell to the Pirates in the fifth set and ended up losing the match 26-24, 15-25, 25-23,21-25, 15-11.
Throughout each set there were girls diving for the ball and going after everything causing long rallies that pushed the players to play as hard as they could.
The first set was extremely high tense and ended up going to twenty-six points instead of twenty-five. The Tigers refused to give up and continued to push to try and win but fell short of the needed two points, allowing the Pirates to gain the first set win of the night.
As the second set started the Tigers came out stronger than they did the first set and were able to hold the Pirates to only fifteen points. This allowed the Tigers to gain their first set win of the night and causing the match to automatically go into four sets.
The third set was another close and high-intensity high intensity match that caused the players on both teams to fight hard and prove that they would not give up. This match ended up not falling the way the Tigers wished it would and gave the Pirates their second set win on the night.
When the fourth set started the Tigers were determined to make the game into a five-set five set match and did not want the game to end. Because of this determination, the Tigers fought hard and came out with their second set win of the night. This win meant that the match would have to go into a fifth set that only went to fifteen points.
The Tigers started out strong in the fifth set and looked as though they were going to win due to the 11-4 score. Something happened to the Tigers though that caused them to struggle with getting past the eleven point mark which benefited the Pirates as they fought their way back into the game and won the fifth set 15-11 over the Tigers ending the match.
Losing the fifth set to the Pirates was hard on the team because none of them thought it would end that way. But comments from the locker room stated that the girls are ready to fight and come out on top the next time they see plainview whether it be in the Pierce County Tournament, Conference, or subdistricts.
The starters for the match were seniors Kennedy Johnson and Madeline Huwaldt, junior Elisa Herrera, sophomores Bailey Schmit, Kiera Moes, Macy Aschoff, and Grace Gansebom.
Also getting varsity experience was sophomore Lillie Gansebom.
The Tiger and Pirate JV teams also had a match before the varsity game started where all of the girls were able to work on their skills. This was the last Tiger junior varsity game of the season.
Johnson led the Tigers in kills with twenty-one followed by Aschoff with nineteen, Moes with eight, Huwaldt with four, G.Gansebom with three, and Schmit with one.
G.Gansebom had forty-two set assists while Schmit had seven and Aschoff and Johnson each had one.
Johnson had four solo blocks on the night and Moes had one.
Leading the Tigers in ace serves were Moes and G.Gansebom who each had three followed by Huwaldt who had one.
Leading the Tigers in digs was Schmit with twenty-eight followed by G.Gansebom with nineteen, Moes with twelve, Aschoff with eleven, Johnson with ten, Herrera with eight, and Huwaldt with four.
The Tigers had three players who had double-doubles during this match including Johnson in kills and digs, G.Gansebom in set assists and digs, and Aschoff in kills and digs.
