February 2017 Board Minutes
MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION #42R
The Osmond Board of Education met at 7:00 PM Monday, February 13, 2017, in the Media
It was moved by Koehler, seconded by von Rentzell, that it is hereby determined that this meeting
was preceded by publicized notice in the February 8, 2017 issue of the Osmond Republican and
is hereby declared to be duly convened in open session. All members having voted in favor of the
motion, the same was declared passed and adopted and the following proceedings were had and
done at said meeting in open session with the open meetings act posted in the room.

Input was provided by some members of the Girls Basketball team in support of Mr. Brown as a
Coach and Principal.
It was moved by Brummels, seconded by Moes, to adopt the consent agenda. For: 6
Principal Brown informed the Board about the upcoming Staff In-Service that will take place on
February 17, indicated that he presented the 2017-18 school calendar to Mr. Hamm, and covered
upcoming events for the month of February.
Mrs. Brummels reported on Assessments, Career Technical Education and Student Learning
Superintendent Hamm shared information on two possible new reading series that will be
recommended by the teachers to the board, the possibility of changing our cleaning supply
company, the current loss of school time due to weather and the success of the safety audit that
was done by Ken Navratil. The NCLB audit, Nebraska Beef in Schools program, the upcoming
IDEA Fiscal Audit, the new bus, the Boiler Room Compressor and the two-year contract with our
natural gas supplier were also discussed.
The Board discussed the outside lighting of the school building. It was decided that a Board
retreat will not be done until next year. An Alicap report was looked at and the local NASB report
was shared. A thank you from the American Legion Axillary was shared along with caramel
popcorn that was provided by the Axillary for which they were thanked.

It was moved by Reikofski, seconded by Moes to approve the school calendar for the 2017-2018

It was move by von Rentzell, seconded by Brummels to approve the resignation of Michael Brown
as K-12 principal.
For: 6 Against: 0
Mr. Brown thanked those who supported him. He also read an email from the school’s legal
counsel sent to him. According to the email, an offer was extended and to Mr. Brown. Mr. Brown
asked if the Board would stand behind that offer.
The Board thanked Mr. Brown for six years of service to the District and President Reikofski
asked for a motion to enter into executive session to discuss the matter further.

It was moved by Brummels, seconded by Koehler to enter into executive session at 8:05 PM.
It was moved by Moes, seconded by Krohn to come out of executive session at 9:10 PM.
After conferring with the district’s legal counsel, it was confirmed that a severance offer was made
to, but never accepted by, Mr. Michael Brown.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:12 PM.
