Tigers finish season at Plainview
PLAINVIEW—The Osmond Tigers girls basketball team finished its season at the Plainview Ballbackers Junior High Basketball Tournament in Plainview on Sunday, March 3.
The Tigers ended the tournament 0-2 with losses against Santee (24-13) and Elgin Public-Pope John (26-10).
“The results weren’t exactly what we wanted, but we did grow from this experience,” Tigers coach Scott Morrison said.
The Tigers came out well in the first game, opening up a slight lead on Santee after making a few shots; however, Santee turned on their aggression and started hitting shots of their own.
After a rest, the Tigers played against EPPJ, and despite falling on the scoreboard, played probably their best game of the season.
“I was really impressed with how aggressive our team played throughout the game. We were on the attack for much of the game.”
This was a great sign considering the last time these two teams matched up, EPPJ completely dominated the contest.
Each individual stepped up for the Tigers. Cali Gutz make, quick aggressive decisions. Leah Buchanan stepped up and set some nice screens and took some really nice shots.
Belle Vinson was aggressive and decisive. Tessa Gardner played well defensively in post. Callie Hoffman worked extremely hard for rebounds.
Caydence Krienert showed her aggression. Anna Kahny hustled to the best of her ability. Julie Kumm started getting more aggressive as the game went on.
Now the Tigers head into the off-season for basketball with an opportunity to improve themselves.
“This group of girls has been resilient throughout the season. They’ve come a long ways. My hope is that they stick with it and put in the necessary work to put themselves in position to be really competitive once they get be in high school.”
