The Osmond Track teams opened their season at the Plainview/Wausa/Osmond triangular meet on Tuesday March 26th. The boy’s won the meet 104.5 to 51 points for Plainview and 24.5 for the Vikings. On the girls side Wausa won the meet with 82 points, Plainview second at 59 and the Tigers third with 39 points.
Starting with the field events: In the shot put Alexis Solorzano won the event (38-7) Landon Stelling 2nd (36-2.5) and Zach Huwaldt 3rd (36-2). Mary Kahny won the shot for the girls (32-9). In the discus Solorzano placed first (105-5), and Parker Johnson 3rd (92-2). Kahny placed second in the discus (87-1).
Makenzie Johnson won the high jump (4-8), and Kiera Moes was 3rd (3-10). Aaron Chishiba won the long jump (18-1). Justus Maertins won the triple jump (37-6), Graysen Schultze 3rd (37-1.5), and Nick Reikofski 4th (34-5.25). Kennedy Johnson placed 2nd in the TJ (31-11.25).
On the track the Tiger boy’s won the 3200-relay in 9:35.0 (Johnson Chishiba, Joshua Gansebom, Mason Bykerk, and Anthony Heiman). Keaton Wattier won the 110 high hurdles (17.5) and Justus Maertins was 2nd (18.1). Makenzie Johnson was 3rd in the 100 hurdles (18.8).Connor Gutz tied for first place in the 100 meter (12.0) and Zach Huwaldt was 3rd (12.3). Haven Schultze was 2nd (14.0) and Grace Gansebom 3rd (14.4).
Jared Bessmer won the 1600 meters (5:16.0), Graysen Schultze 2nd (5:20.0), and Joshua Gansebom 4th (5:35.0), Hunter Beacom was close to scoring at 5th place. Both teams won the 400-relay. Girls won in a time of 57.4 (Kennedy Johnson, Makenzie Johnson, Grace Gansebom, and Haven Schultze). The boy’s time was 48.9 (Aaron Chishiba, Nick Reikofski, Bodie True, and Zach Huwaldt).
Anthony Heiman won the 400 meters (59.3) and Kennedy Johnson was 3rd (71.1) for the girls. The Tiger boy’s swept the 300 hurdles: 1st Justus Maertins (45.1), 2nd Keaton Wattier (48.3) and 3rd Kaden Polt (50.6). Johnson Chishiba had a strong kick to the finish of the 800 meters out leaning Ethan Baue of Wasua. Johnson’s time (2:19.2), Ryan Schmit was 4th (2:32.8). Aaron Chishiba won the 200 meters (25.0), Keaton Wattier 3rd (26.2) and Bodie True tied for 4th (26.3). Haven Schultze and Grace Gansebom tied for 3rd place in the 200 meters (30.3). Jared Bessmer out dueled teammate Mason Bykerk in the 3200 meters as the lead changed hands numerous times. Jared’s time was (11:40.0) and Masons (11:44.0).
In the final event of the day Osmond’s boy’s won the 1600-relay in a time of 4:05.0 (Justus Maertins, Johnson Chishiba, Bodie True, and Anthony Heiman). The girl’s were second to Wausa in a time of 4:49.5 (Grace Gansebom, Riley Wagner, Kennedy Johnson, and Makenzie Johnson).
“I was very happy with our performances especially since some of the guy’s had only 5 practices” noted Coach Joe Ortmeier “plus the weather has been anything but helpful for our training.” He added “our goal was to go out and compete, but not strain or pull any muscles and we were pretty successful in that respect.”
Tigers are scheduled to compete at Battle Creek on Monday starting at 12:30 for throws and 1:00 other field events. Running events on the track are scheduled to start at 3:30.
