On October 8 the Osmond Lady Tigers (8-7) traveled to Tilden NE, to play Elkhorn Valley (12-9) in the annual Pink Out game. The Elkhorn Valley Falcons downed the Tigers in four sets 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 26-24.
Both of the teams wore their pink warm-ups and pink jerseys to show support for those suffering from breast cancer. The money that was fundraised from selling the pink out shirts were donated to the Hope Fund. All together both teams raised $1,000 collectively to donate.
The Tigers and Falcons both started out very strong in the first set with a lot of energy. This was a very exciting matchup against two teams who are usually not equally matched. In past years the Tigers struggled to play with the Falcons.
The Tigers had just beat Wausa the night before and were hoping to use their momentum to gain another win for their season. Sadly that was not the case for the Tigers.
All four of the sets were very close and could have gone either way. It seemed as though the Tigers could not get a call or ball to fall their way in the last three sets.
Throughout the night the Tigers kept fighting hard and although they didn’t win, many of the parents and fans consider this match a mental win because the girls fought hard until the end of the match.
“There were some pretty amazing service runs from some of our girls. We also kept fighting, and I don’t think we’ve ever played Elkhorn Valley that intense or close before. It was really great to see all of the girls working hard and working together after the tough run of losses we had.” Senior Madeline Huwaldt commented after the game.
The Tiger starters for the night were seniors Kennedy Johnson (OH) and Madeline Huwaldt (MH), junior Elisa Herrera (L), sophomores Macy Aschoff (OH), Grace Gansebom (S), Bailey Schmit (RH), and Kiera Moes (MH).
As for kills Macy Aschoff had an amazing night with thirteen. Johnson also had six kills followed by Huwaldt with three, Moes with two, and Gansebom and Schmit each with one.
Gansebom had twenty-one set assists while Schmit had two and Johnson had one.
Aschoff was the only Tiger to get her hands on a ball for a solo block.
Gansebom led the Tigers in ace serves with nine followed by Johnson and Schmit who each had one.
Herrera had an amazing defensive night with twenty-two digs followed by Aschoff with nineteen, Gansebom with eleven, Johnson with nine, Schmit with six, and Huwaldt and Moes each with three.
The Junior Varsity also had a match against the Falcons where they were able to work on their skills and gain experience on the court.
The Tigers (8-8) will travel to Plainview to compete against the Pirates (3-14) on October 10 with JV starting at 5:30 and varsity to follow at approximately 6:00.
