Senior Livestock Judging Team Excels at Districts
Twelve members of the Osmond FFA Chapter traveled to Norfolk on Thursday, January 30th,
2020 to compete in the District IV FFA Livestock Judging Contest, which was held at the
Northeast Community College Chuck M. Pohlman Ag Complex. Livestock judging consists of
carefully analyzing animals and measuring them against a standard that is commonly accepted
as being ideal. Each year the FFA contest consists of evaluating three species, swine, beef, and
sheep. This year, students evaluated eight classes of animals, including two classes of market
hogs, market steers, market lambs, breeding heifers, and breeding ewes; along with two
cull/keep classes one of breeding gilts and one of breeding heifers. All students completed a
written test and three sets of question classes. The senior division individuals gave three sets of
oral reasons and the junior division provided one set.
Members from the Osmond FFA Chapter that competed in the junior division included freshmen
Zachary Reikofski, Caden Wingert, Robert Aschoff, and Reese Hanna; and sophomore Mason
Gansebom. Individually, Robert Aschoff received a purple ribbon in 9th place, while Mason
Gansebom, Reese Hanna, and Zach Reikofski all earned red ribbons. The junior team of
Robert, Mason, Reese, and Zach earned a purple ribbon in 7th place.
Members of the Osmond FFA Chapter that competed in the senior division included junior Blake
Bahr; and seniors Madeline Huwaldt, Logan Stelling, Landon Stelling, Nick Timmerman,
Zachary Alderson, and Alexis Solorzano. Individually, Landon Stelling received 3rd place and a
purple ribbon, while Zach Alderson and Madeline Huwaldt received red ribbons in the senior
division. The team of senior team of Landon Stelling, Zach Alderson, Madeline Huwaldt, and
Logan Stelling received 5th place, earning a blue ribbon and qualifying for the State Competition
