vonRentell Leads FFA Speaker to State

December 06, 2024

The annual District 4 FFA Leadership Development Event is more than just a competition; it is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and growth of young agricultural leaders. This year’s contest showcased exceptional talent, with participants delivering speeches that reflected their passion for agriculture, community, and leadership.

Preparation for LDE’s begins months in advance with participants dedicating countless hours to researching, writing, and rehearsing their speeches. They explore topics that resonate deeply within the agricultural community, such as sustainability, innovation, and rural development. The process not only sharpens their public speaking skills but also deepens their understanding of issues affecting the industry.

For many contestants, the journey is supported by mentors, teachers, and peers. Advisors play a crucial role in guiding students, offering constructive feedback, and encouraging them to push their boundaries. This collaborative effort fosters a sense of camaraderie and builds confidence among participants.

This year’s event featured an impressive lineup of speeches that captivated the audience and judges alike. One standout moment came from Addison vonRentzell, whose speech on
Cooperatives, earned her the first-place medal and a chance to represent our chapter at the State Cooperative Speaking LDE Competition in April 2025. Her compelling delivery and thorough research left a lasting impression on the judges. Another memorable presentation was given by Ava Reikofski, who shared about the effects of overgrazing on our natural resources, earning her third place and a chance to represent our chapter at the State Natural Resources LDE Competition. An additional state qualifier was found in District Runner-up, Mackenzie Vanness, who will be representing our chapter in the State Employment Skills LDE Competition.

Other participants in the District LDE Competition included Ava Severson (Jr. Public Speaking - blue), Korrine Moes (Jr. Public Speaking - blue), Alexa Aschoff (Natural Resources Speaking - blue), Keely Gubbels (Cooperative Speaking - blue), Ashlyn Spangler (Extemporaneous Speaking - red), Adyson Poellot (Creed Speaking - red), Remington Swindt (Creed Speaking - red), Clara Steinkraus (JH Discovery Speaking - blue), Kenley Friedrich (JH Ag Literacy Speaking - blue), Cody Gansebom (Ag Demo - red), Caleb Vinson (Ag Demo - red), Mackenzie Suhr (Ag Demo - red), Aidan Stech (Ag Demo - red), Evynn Kumm (JH Quiz Bowl), Ava Kumm (JH Quiz Bowl), Nevaeh Newton (JH Quiz Bowl), Katarina Miller (JH Quiz Bowl), and Adalyn Koehler (JH Quiz Bowl).

The District FFA Leadership Development Event is more than a platform for competition though; it is a stepping stone for personal and professional growth. Participants develop essential skills such as critical thinking, effective communication, and the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly. These competencies prepare them for future leadership roles in agriculture and beyond.

Congratulations to all participants and winners of this year’s contest. Your success is a reflection of your hard work and dedication. The future of agriculture is brighter because of your efforts.
