MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION #42R

Regular Meeting

03/11/2024

 

The Osmond Board of Education met at 7:01 pm on Monday, March 11, 2024, in the Multi-Purpose room at Osmond Community Schools, located at 202 W. Prairie St., Osmond, NE.   

 

It was moved by Gansebom, seconded by Koehler, that it is hereby determined that this meeting was preceded by publicized notice in the March 6, 2024 issue of the Osmond Republican and is hereby declared to be duly convened in open session. A current copy of the open meetings act was posted in the building.  All members having voted in favor of the motion, the same was declared passed and adopted and the following proceedings were had and done at said meeting in open session.    For:  4     Against:  0  

 

The district purpose statement was read.

 

Board member roll call was taken, with President Moes being excused.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. 

 

Celebration of Excellence:  Mrs. Kumm, 5th grade teacher and some of the Elementary Student Council members, including Henley Marks, Emerson Wagner, Toby Koehler, Kolby Gubbels and Reid Brummels were in attendance to present to the board on their past and future events for the current school year.     

 

Patron Input:  Guests in attendance being Regina Lorenz, Brian Guenther, Kayla & Terry Hoffman, Nick Krienert and Josh Brummels were recognized.  Several parents inquired about junior high sports with Mr. Bremer and Mr. Polt addressing subject regarding possible options, noting a future patron meeting will be held on the topic.   

 

It was moved by Reikofski, seconded by Koehler, to approve the February meeting minutes as presented.            For:  5     Against:  0

 

It was moved by Gansebom, seconded by Rice to approve reviewed board policies 3029, 3032, 3034, 3035, 3036, 3037 and 6020.   For:  5     Against: 0

 

It was moved by Reikofski, seconded by Rice to approve the consent agenda and financial reports as presented.    For:  5    Against:  0

 

Athletic Director Guenther reported on:  1) academic All-State awards for winter activites; 2) varsity football for the 24/25 season; 3) upcoming work on junior high and junior varsity football for the 24/25 season; 4) work on the 24/25 basketball schedule; and 5) the beginning of this year’s track and golf seasons.

 

Principal Polt reported on; 1) the end of the 3rd quarter and report cards; 2) the upcoming 7-12 assembly on March 19th, open to parents and patrons; 3) the upcoming PBIS and MTSS elementary breakfast bingo on March 20th;  4) the elementary student council K-6 assembly on March 21st; 5) ACT test for the junior class on March 26th; 6) 8th grade class career day at NECC on March 26th; 7) district speech on March 12th  in Stuart;  8) Class D all-state band concert on March 22nd at UNK, with OCS being represented by seven band members; 9) acknowledged OCS Staff, Mrs. Kuhl, Mrs. Marks and the OCS speech team for doing a great job hosting conference speech; 10) noted OCS will host district music contest on April 29th; 11) reported on bids for the shot clocks in the gym; 12) noted Easter break will begin with an early out on March 28th, with school resuming on April 2nd;  12) the State FFA convention will take place in Lincoln on April 3-5; and 13) Kindergarten Round-Up  scheduled for April 11th.        

 

Superintendent Bremer reported on; 1) the review of board policies; 2) FFA updates and offered  congratulations to Mrs. Evans who was named the Lower Elkhorn NRD Teacher of the Year; (with member Koehler adding he’s working on a future FFA Booster Club); 3) provided co-op updates, noting the future community meeting on the topic, scheduled for March 19th; 4) provided a current bank rates update; 5) potential office remodel update; 6) a Safety and Security grant progress update; 8) Multicultural Education Report; 8) Lewis & Clark Conference realignment; 9) Intent to Return form being distributed to teachers; 10) certified staff Negotiated Agreement being completed and signed; 11) setting a Facility, Transportation and Grounds Committee meeting; 12) a Daycare / ECE Committee meeting; 13) noted HOMEteam has asked the school staff to participate in the Summerfest dunk-tank; and 14) provided further notes on the strategic Plan and District goals.   

 

Board Comments:   1) Members further discussed current enrollment numbers for boys basketball and possible future options; and 2) member Krohn addressed Boys and Girls State, inquiring about expanded future participation.

 

Action Items:  None.   

 

The minutes of the meeting were read.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 pm. 

 

Notice is hereby given that the next regular meeting of the Osmond Board of Education will be on Monday, April 8, 2024 at 8:00 pm at the school.  An agenda is kept continually current and is available for public inspection in the Superintendent’s office during regular office hours.
