Tigers Compete at WSC Outdoor Invite

 

            Friday March 19th Osmond traveled to Wayne State College for their annual Indoor meet but this year due to Covid -19 the meet was held outdoors.  The weather was a cool 55degrees but the sunshine really helped.

          The Tigers had a number of nice performances verses larger schools.  Senior Graysen Schultze took runner-up honors in the triple jump at 40-1 by ½ inch behind Arens of Stanton. He also places fourth in the 1600 meters in a nice time of 5:06.07.

          Johnson Chishiba was fourth in the 800 meters in 2:13.71.  Ryan Schmit just missed placing as he came in 7th in 2:23.56. Zach Huwaldt also placed fourth in the shot put with a strong toss of 40-8.5. Freshman Spencer Hille placed fifth in the high jump clearing 5-8 and had a nice attempt at 5-10.

          For the girl’s Grace Gansebom cruised to a fourth place finish in the 200 meters in 29.28.  She also had a nice mark in the long jump placing fifth at 15-.5. Kiera Moes just missed placing as her mark of 14-9 was seventh. Cali Gutz had a solid race in the 1600 meters as she hit the final turn in third place, but could not hold off Fehringer of Columbus Scotus and placed fourth in 6:18.51. 

          Osmond placed two relay teams on the boy’s side.  The 3200-relay team of Johnson Chishiba, Ryan Schmit, Karter Johnson, and Graysen Schultze placed second behind Homer in a time of 9:16.9.  The 1600-relay team of Bodie True, Johnson Chishiba, Graysen Schultze, and Connor Gutz finished in third place behind Stanton and Boone Central.  Their time was a solid 3:45.08.

          “We really had a good opening day” noted Coach Joe Ortmeier, “It was great getting back on a track and we competed well. We need better weather for conditioning and technique work.”  

          Teams in the meet were Boone Central, Columbus Scotus, Norfolk Catholic, Osmond, Stanton, Summerland, Tekamah-Herman, Wayne, West Holt, Chambers-Wheeler Central, Hinton, Homer.
