Boy’s Fifth: Girl’s Sixth at Plainview Invite

            Friday April 1st was the annual Plainview Invitational.  The day was cool and breezy but the athletes took advantage of the new track and runway surfaces at the Plainview facility.  The Tiger boy’s finished fifth just behind Plainview and the girl’s were sixth also right behind Plainview.

          Winning gold for the Tigers was Cali Gutz in the 800 meters in a nice time of 2:39.69.  She was also runner-up in the 1600 meters in 6:16.55.  The boy’s won the first and last relays.  In the 3200-relay Plainview trailed close to the Tigers the entire race but the team of Gavin Geneski, Hudson Schultze, Karter Johnson, and Ryan Schmit led from start to finish.  Their time was 9:09.12. 

          The 1600-relay had a similar look as Bodie True got the team out to an early lead with Ryan Schmit, Gavin Geneski and Alex Vinson holding the lead and extending it over Norfolk Catholic.  Osmond’s time was 3:44.95 to the Knight’s 3:52.59.

          Kaden Polt was runner-up in the 110 high hurdles in 16.81 and he was third in the 300 hurdles in 45.86.  Grace Gansebom also took runner-up honors in the 200 meters in a time of 29.17 and was third in the long jump with a leap of 15-3.5. Keli Aschoff placed third in the 3200 meters in a time of 14:02.44.  Erica Heiman took fifth place in the 100 hurdles in 18.81 and was sixth in the 300 hurdles in 56.17.  Kiera Moes made the finals in the 100 hurdles, but did not place, she also made the triple jump final.

          Bodie True took third place in the 400 meters running his fastest one lap race ever.  His time was 54.47.  Owen Severson finished fourth in the 300 hurdles in a time of 48.68, and Xander Brown had his best ever discus throw of 120-4, good for fourth place.  Bradee Gubbels placed fifth in the long jump with a nice mark of 18-8, with James Doyle making the long jump final, but did not place. 

          Gavin Geneski and Ryan Schmit both placed in the 800 meters.  Gavin finished fifth in 2:18.53 and Ryan was sixth in 2:19.61. Alex Vinson took sixth place in the 200 meters in a time of 25.04.  The boy’s 400-relay team collected fifth place in a time of 48.65.  Team members were Bodie True, Alex Vinson, James Doyle, and Hunter Buchanan.

          The girl’s 3200-relay team placed third as Cali Gutz, Grace Gansebom, Caydence Krienert, and Keli Aschoff covered the distance in 11:21.5.  The 1600-relat team finished in fourth place with a time was 4:44.83. Team members were Grace Gansebom, Sophie Gansebom, Erica Heiman, and Cali Gutz.

          “We had a good day, some of the events are showing signs of being pretty good” Coach Ortmeier said.
