Tiger Track and Field Sets the Bar for the Season at WSC Indoor Meet
Saturday, March 21st, the Osmond Tiger Track Teams traveled to Wayne State College for their indoor invitational. Osmond athletes, as well as athletes from Bishop Heelan Catholic Sioux City, Boone Central, Columbus Lakeview, Columbus Scotus, Creighton, David City, Gehlen Catholic LeMars, Hartington-Newcastle, Lawton-Bronson, Lutheran High Northeast, O’Neill, Pierce, Wakefield, and West-Point Beemer, took to the track inside the Wildcat Dome/Dr. Ron Holt Track & Field Complex.
The competition was tough with most of the schools out-ranking Osmond in size, but the Tigers put together a good set of marks to start the season.
The day started in the field events with Kaleb Gardner jumping a personal best of 16’ 10” in the long jump, followed closely behind by Sophomore Easton Steinkraus leaping to a personal best of 16’ 4.5”.
In the Triple Jump, Sophomore Easton Steinkraus led the Tigers with a mark of 35’ 1”; his personal best. Freshman Trenton Wiseley also set a personal best with a mark of 34’ 7.5”.
In the Boy’s 200 meter dash, Mason True ran a 25.47.
In the Boy’s 400 meter dash, Mason True ran a 56.65, his personal best.
Freshman Trenton Wiseley was Osmond’s lone Boy’s 1600 meter runner. Trenton finished the race in 5:48.28, a personal best.
The 4x400 meter relay team of True, Wiseley, Steinkraus, and Gardner ran a time of 4:08.22.
On the girls’ side of things, Sophomore Korrine Moes led the Osmond throwers, hurling the shot put 27’ 10.5”, her personal best.
Freshman high jumper Kenley Friedrich leapt to ninth place with a jump of 4’6”, while teammate Ava Kumm tied her personal best at 4’ 2”.
In the long jump, Kenley Friedrich and Sunny Geneski both jumped a personal best. Friedrich jumped 13’ 8” and Geneski 11’ 8”.
Kenley Friedrich also ran the 60-meter dash in 9 seconds flat. Evynn Kumm ran 9.06 and Korrine Moes ran 9.47 seconds. Kenley and Evynn’s times were personal bests for both of them. In the Girl’s 200 meter dash, Kenley Friedrich led the Tigers with a time of 29.78 seconds, a personal best. Evynn Kumm and Sunny Geneski also ran personal bests of 29.95 seconds and 33.49 seconds, respectively.
In the girls’ 400-meter dash, Adalyn Koehler, Siris Stanton, and Carriana Kumm all ran personal bests. Koehler ran 1:15.84; Stanton ran 1:16.56, and Kumm ran 1:18.51.
Nevaeh Newton was the Lady Tigers’ lone 800-meter runner. She ran a personal best of 3:13.49.
Deanna Kumm ran the 3200 meters in 17:44.99, a personal best.
Siris Stanton and Ava Kumm both ran the 60-meter hurdles in personal bests with times of 12.68 and 13.29, respectively.
The 4x400 relay team of Adalyn Koehler, Evynn Kumm, Korrine Moes, and Carriana Kumm ran a time of 5:01.47.
The 4x800 relay team of Deanna Kumm, Nevaeh Newton, Siris Stanton, and Carriana Kumm covered the distance in a time of 13:54.31, finishing in 8th place.
“I was proud of the kids. They competed very well against some much larger schools”, complimented Coach Jessica Evans. “We are a young team, but if the kids keep putting in hard work like this, they will see a lot of success this season.”
