Osmond Tigers Earn State Qualification at District D3 Track Meet
The Osmond Tigers Track Team turned in a strong performance at the District D3 Track and Field Meet on Wednesday, May 13th, at the Hartington Track Complex, highlighted by multiple medal finishes and two state qualifications.
Leading the way for the Tigers boys team was Mason True, who qualified for the state meet in the 800-meter run with a runner-up finish in a time of 2:06.96. True also captured third place in the 400 meters, crossing the line in 53.73 seconds.
In distance competition, Trenton Wiseley earned fifth place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:21.84.
The Tigers’ 4x400 relay team of True, Wiseley, Easton Steinkraus, and Kaleb Gardner placed fifth overall in 4:00.85.
Gardner also earned a medal in the discus, finishing fifth with a throw of 128 feet, 5 inches.
For the girls' team, Kenley Friedrich delivered an outstanding day, qualifying for state in the 300-meter hurdles with a third-place finish in 50.42 seconds. Friedrich also placed third in the high jump by clearing 4 feet, 9 inches.
Evynn Kumm added a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 1:05.16.
The girls' 4x400 relay team of Adalyn Koehler, Clara Steinkraus, Siris Stanton, and Kumm placed sixth in 4:41.65.
In the 4x800 relay, Stanton, Nevaeh Newton, Sunny Geneski, and Carriana Kumm finished fifth with a time of 12:41.71.
Despite qualifying for the finals in the 200 meters, Friedrich finished eighth in 30.69 seconds. Steinkraus also narrowly missed a medal in the triple jump after qualifying for finals, placing seventh with a jump of 30 feet, 7 inches.
The Tigers will now prepare for the Nebraska State Track and Field Championships, where Mason True and Kenley Friedrich will represent Osmond in their qualifying events. Both will compete on Saturday, May 23rd at Burke Stadium in Omaha.
