Boys 3rd: Girl’s 4th at Soggy Hartington Invite


        Tuesday April 24th was the rescheduled Hartington Invitational.  The meet went to a single session format: no prelims.  Early in the meet the rain started and continued through most of the day.

        Osmond’s gold medal winners were Haven Schultze in the 100 meters and Makenzie Johnson in the high jump.  Haven’s time was 13.68 on the automatic timing system and Makenzie cleared 4-10 jumping into the sloppy pit. Later Makenzie finished second in the 100 hurdles in 18.89. 

        Kennedy Johnson placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 30-9.5.  She also finished fourth in the 400 meters in 67.86. Caitlin Kumm placed third in the high jump at 4-6.  Haven Schultze collected fourth place in the 200 meters in 29.67.  Madeline Huwaldt finished in fifth place in the 800 meters in 3:01.02.  Lexi Beacom finished fifth in the 3200 meters in 15:32.48 soaking wet. Mary Kahny was sixth in the discus with a toss of 81-4.

        The girl’s 1600-relay finished in third place in 4:55.93. Team members were Andrea Schmit, Haven Schultze, Kennedy Johnson, and Makenzie Johnson.  The 3200-relay team collected fourth place in 12:54.37.  Team members were Lexi Beacom, Antonia vonMeer, Elisa Herrera, and Madeline Huwaldt.  The 400-relay team also finished in fourth place in 55.75 and team members were Kennedy, Makenzie, Haven, and Andrea.

        Osmond’s boy’s team had a pair of runner-up finishers in the middle distance races.  Anthony Heiman took second in the 400 meters in 56.14 and Johnson Chishiba was second in the 800 meters in 2:17.68. 

        Jared Bessmer and Justus Maertins earned third place medals.  Jared in the 3200 meters in 11:19.87 and Justus in the 110 high hurdles and the 300 hurdles.  Justus’s times were 17.77 and 44.41 respectively. Two other Tigers scored in the high hurdles as Alexander Heiman was fifth in 19.51 and Keaton Timmerman sixth in 19.68. 

        Alex Alderson finished fifth in the 800 meters in 2:27.11 and Joshua Gansebom was sixth in the 1600 meters in his best time of the season of 5:17.93.  Alex Palu placed fifth in the 100 meters and sixth in the 200 meters.  His times were 12.02 and 24.37. 

        The 3200-relay team came in second in 9:59.64.  Team members were Johnson Chishiba, Joshua Gansebom, Jared Bessmer, and Anthony Heiman.  The 1600-relay team also earned silver in a time of 3:51.98.  Team members were Justus Maertins, Connor Guts, Johnson Chishiba, and Anthony Heiman. The 400-relay team was third in a time of 48.46 and team members were Aaron Chishiba, Nick Reikofski, Colton Beacom, and Alex Palu.

        In the field Alexis Solorzano placed fourth in both the shot and discus.  His marks were 40-3.5 in the shot and 95-8 in the discus.  In the triple jump Justus Maertins placed fourth with a leap of 38-2 and Graysen Schultze was sixth at 36-5.  In the long jump Nick Reikofski placed fifth with a mark of 18-3 and Colton Beacom was sixth at 17-10.5.   Aaron Chishiba placed fifth in the high jump at 5-0.

        “Our kids battled the elements and some pretty good teams” Coach Ortmeier praised. “Even in the rain and stiff wind we had some personal bests and seasons bests.  I’m proud of their toughness and spirit as it was not that much fun out there.”
